Writing in the same place all the time can start to deliver a feeling of monotony. I produce content Darlington and County Durham plus beyond. But I can’t sit in one place and just write all the time. Even if the work you are doing is varied, by working in the same place then you get the feeling of boredom. I am a great believer that everything you so in your life is reflected in one way or another in your writing. Writing in different places keeps it fresh all the time.
If you are going through a hard time then when you look back on your writing at that time there is a darker tone to it.
If you are reading a lot of fiction then your writing takes on a prosaic form.
I have spoken to other writers and people in other creative disciplines and they experience the same things too. Photographers and artists are particularly susceptible to the power of outside influence.
It isn’t really something that you can (or should) fight but you need to be aware of it, particularly for your clients if you write for others. And the place that you write is another factor in all of this. Boredom with your surrounding scan bring in a level of boredom with your writing and this is never going to be a good thing for a writer. you need to make sure that you can keep your writing as fresh and engaging as possible. The stimuli that you expose yourself to can have a big influence on the work you create. So there are some things that you can do to ensure that your work remains fresh-
This is the easiest way to keep it all feeling fresh. If you have a laptop to write on then just get up and go somewhere else. In the summer months sitting outside to write is a great way to feel happy and at one with nature. Just a change of scene can make a big difference to how you feel. It also helps you to realise what a great job writing for a living is. In the winter then make use of the free refills and wi-fi connection that your local cafe offers. In the UK Wetherspoons is a great place. You will also find some inspiration for new characters there if you are writing fiction! I write content Darlington and lie near to the town but don’t always write there. Getting to see other parts of the world will help your writing. Always remember that writing in different places keeps it fresh and you can’t go wrong.
It isn’t just that writing in different places keeps it fresh but finding different inspirations too. If you really don’t want to leave the comforts of your own home of office then there are other ways to keep inspired. Keeping inspiring books, images, photos or items near to you can really help to create a place that will inspire you to deliver high quality creative work. I once saw a television programme that following the British designer Paul Smith. He sat in his studio absolutely surrounded by books, nick-nacks and items that he had picked up as inspiration. You often found him in charity shops looking for the items that might spark ideas for his next collection. Gather up all those interesting flyers and leaflets that interest you, take photos of the things that you find inspirational on your travels – and actually get them printed out. I think that every writer needs to be a photographer too – even a content writer in County Durham. Sit and look at these things when you are planning your next piece of writing. They will really help you to get inspired!
