I have been writing content for people for many years now and it is really interesting to see how content ebbs and flows according to the seasons, where we are in the year. There is a flurry of requests at the moment from people who want me to write for them. This is one of the parts of the year where people focus back on their content requirements and look to content to drive forward their business. And there are a few others. Let’s take a look –
As we get back to work in the new year and return to having our feet under the desk, we start to plan. And part of that planning is to look at the marketing effort for the year. That’s when people return to work filled with good intentions. Content gets written!
Unfortunately, like many new year’s resolutions, it tails off from there. Content looks like a great idea. We just don’t stick to it. But we really should.
At that time of the year we used to see the adverts, a dog is for life, not just for Christmas. And it is the same or content. It builds up over the life of it being found on the internet. It very often isn’t a viral bang that hits the eyes of the world for a short period of time and then disappears. That’s more for the news.
Again, we get the same kind of rush to produce content after Easter. I think that there are a couple of things at play here –
This means that minds are concentrated. It also means that targets are out there.
Content can really help a business connect and engage with their desired audience if it is done right. Having made those vital connections, we look to sell. But we can’t do the 2nd one effectively until we have established the first one.
That’s one of the reasons that networking has become so successful in the business community – people make those connections, see people a few times, develop relationships and then buy from each other.
And we come back to the here and now. As much as we don’t like to admit it, the 6 week school holiday does see things low down a little. Many sole traders don’t have much choice but to take a step away from their business for a while at least. Going away to sunnier climes for a couple of weeks is great, but does stop you from making money at times.
Then September hits. The kids go back to school and the business world steps up a gear again. And content comes back to the fore. People can see Christmas in the near future and are getting ready to boost their finances in the meantime.
Sitting by a pool or lying on the beach gives us plenty of tome to think about what we will do when we get back to work. Content is one of those things that keeps slipping off the radar. We intend to get it back on a regular rotation.
But your business doesn’t have to go through peaks and troughs with content. If you want a regular blog that keeps people engaged then drop us a line. We’re here to make sure you have content even when you are busy with other things.
